Vangelis is a world famous Greek composer of electronic and classical music, as well as a performer.

Born March 29, 1943 near Volos, Greece. He started composing at the age of four, and is mainly a self-taught musician. He has never recieved traditional piano lessons, and does not have in depth knowledge of reading or writing musical notation. He in fact studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Athens and still paints.

Born Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou he performs ans writes under the stage name Vangelis Papathanassiou or just Vangelis (a diminutive of his Christian name "Evangelos").

He is perhaps best known for his score for the film Chariots of Fire which won an Academy Award, and also for his scores for the films Blade Runner and 1492: Conquest of Paradise.
